Teenage Acne Treatment – 5 Minute Guide

Teenage Acne Treatment

Acne is a common problem for teenagers.  In fact teenage acne is the most
common type of acne.  Acne can occur at any age from birth to the adult years, but the extreme hormonal changes a person goes through during their teenage years causes the best environment for acne to occur.

Acne Vulgaris is a frustrating and embarrassing condition that has been combated by many.  Teenage acne can be hard to combat because the cause of the acne is hard to treat.

Acne that occur during the teenage years is directly caused by hormones which stimulate the oil producing glands in the skin.  The oil build ups in the pores and causes a breakout of acne.  These hormonal changes are a natural and necessary part of puberty.  Unlike baby acne that goes away quickly without any treatment, teenage acne usually last throughout the teenage years and can not be stopped, only tamed until the hormonal changes stop.

Treating teenage acne is basically done by keeping the skin clean to prevent the pores from becoming clogged and treating the individual breakouts.  Keeping the skin clean is done by washing it twice a day with a mild cleanser.  There may be a tendency towards scrubbing the skin, however, being too rough on the skin can cause even more problems.

Scrubbing the skin harshly or using drying medications can actually cause the glands to produce even more oil and make acne even worse.  A moderate cleansing routine is best.  Keeping hair off the face and avoiding oily make up can also help.  The most common treatments for acne include products containing
salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide.  These medications spot treat existing acne and help to rescue inflammation and clear the pore.

Severe cases may require a visit to the dermatologist who can prescribe medication to kill the bacteria that is present.  Killing the bacteria will reduce the acne.

Teenage acne is a part of life.  It is so common that it is expected as a part of puberty and few get lucky enough to avoid acne at all during their teenage years.  By practicing good hygiene and treating acne when it occurs a teenager can help to reduce the severity of their breakouts.  It is possible for teenagers to make it through their teenage years without too many acne problems with the proper teenage acne treatment.
